塞利维亚西班牙广场

Serbia Square (Spanish: Plaza de Serbia) is a public square located in the city of seville.html">Seville, Spain. It is situated near the cathedral.html">Cathedral of Saint Mary and the Archivo de Indias.

On 16 June 2006, a ceremony was held to rename the "Plaza del Pan" after Serbia.

This decision followed an invitation from the Republic of Serbia to give its name to one of the main squares in Seville, as a sign of friendship between both nations and cities.

The city council voted in favour of renaming it "Plaza de Serbia".

In August 2013 a statue was unveiled on the square named Mihajlo Pupin, a Serbian inventor who spent his exile years in Seville, with a quote from him engraved at its base: "To be able to do something that no other has done is to do it for all".

The Spanish city and the Serbian people have been close since the 14th century.

Seville has always had a strong cultural bond with Serbia, due in part to its historical.html">historical relations with Spain and the large number of Serbs that live there.

A monument dedicated to the friendship between Seville and Belgrade (the capital city of Serbia) is located on the square. The monument was donated by the Serbian government.

The idea behind the initiative, which was started in 2005, is to build a monument that symbolizes the solidarity between the two nations, and to strengthen their cultural ties even more.
